The Excitement of Nova

I live fifteen minutes from Villanova University and it is exciting right now as Villanova gears up for the final game tomorrow night against UNC. There is energy in the air, a palpable feeling of pride for those who live in the area. People are psyched up for the game and I'm sure all local bars will be hopping tomorrow night.

Philadelphia is notorious for having fair weather fans. I have seen it first hand at Eagles games where fans boo their own team. Then the next minute they are cheering because someone made a good play. I have seen Eagles fans boo Santa Claus. The most loyal fans out of the four major teams are for the Flyers. Those fans are just die hard, and the team can do no wrong. Phillies fans are a close second.

But March Madness is different. It is college level play. Most people get into the game by not only following their favorite teams or players but by filling out the infamous brackets. It is fun to see which teams win, which are upset and for people to see if their predictions are correct.

There are many great universities throughout Philadelphia and the suburbs. Villanova is on the prestigious Main Line, less than thirty minutes from downtown Philadelphia. With the many universities and colleges that were a part of March Madness, Villanova made it to the finals. I am excited to watch the game (despite the fact I do not have a TV) and hope our local team comes out on top. It will be highly celebrated, as if our city won the Super Bowl.

Go Nova! But no matter if they take home the title or not, you have made our city proud!
